The Blessed Trinity Thunder girls rugby team punched its ticket to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations AAA championships Monday at Brock with an impressive 53-5 victory over the A.N. Myer Marauders in the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association final.
It will be the third time BT head coach Jim Graef has taken a team to OFSAA in his eight years at the school. It’s the first time since the year after COVID.
“We started the season and the majority of the girls were in Grade 9 so I thought it would be a building season because we lost 12 of our starters from last year,” he said. “Eden always has a tough team, Myer has a tough team and we thought we will do as well as we can. The Grade 9s stepped up and wow, it blew us away. The last few games, it was amazing how they came together and they did everything they needed to do. I’m very excited.”
Graef credited his leadership group for exceeding expectations.
